August Sander

August Sander's portrait series were something I also found interesting. The lack of emotion on the subjects face can actually make the images quite powerful, and suggests the photos are not staged which is something I'm hoping to use in my own photography.

Robet Frank's work covers lifestyles in America outside of the mainstream and the stereotypical 'American Dream.' His representation of people who are typically represented less, is something I hope to show in my own work in photographing alternative lifestyles and living.

Lee Friedlander

Friedlander's focus on creating a 'social landscape' is a feature which inspired my own work. From my media studies this term I've enjoyed the concept that the media we create, in fact shapes society. It could be related to the idea of a social landscape, as our environment shapes us.

I'm a big fan of Friedlander's use of reflection, at times it's used to establish a location of the photograph without sidetracking the main subject of the picture.
